I don’t sell timber. I can help with what to buy, how much of it, and who to buy it from. Most of that is free. When a job needs real digging, I charge for my time, and you’ll always know the price before you pay a penny.
Free: point you in the right direction
- Choosing a species. The species library is written from the yard, not from a catalogue: how each timber works, moves, finishes and behaves once it’s in a building.
- Working out quantities and movement. The calculators cover board feet, coverage and how much a board will move. Free, no email needed.
- Learning the trade basics. The series runs one short episode a week, and the guides go deeper on individual jobs.
- Finding somewhere to buy it. The timber directory lists independent merchants, sawmills and specialists.
- A quick question. Send it over and I’ll answer it. That’s one free reply per enquiry. If it needs more than that, I’ll say so and tell you which search fits.
Paid: I go and find it for you
Timber Sourcing Search
£49
I research your job and check with suppliers for availability, board sizes and indicative prices, then send you up to three supplier options with their details.
Specialist Timber Search
£89
For hard-to-find species, unusual sizes or particular grades. I read your enquiry first and tell you if it’s a fit before you pay.
You buy direct from the supplier. The fee covers my time, not the timber or delivery, and I can’t promise suitable stock exists. If I find nothing that fits, I’ll tell you what I tried and why.
Bigger job? Ask me
A whole build, a run of joinery, something that doesn’t fit either search? Tell me about it. I’ll give you a straight answer on whether I can help. If I can, I’ll quote you a fixed price first and email you a one-off payment link for it. If I can’t, I’ll point you to someone who can.
How it works
- Send me the details: the project, the timber, sizes, quantities, your postcode and any deadline.
- I reply with which search fits and the fixed price. If I don’t think a paid search will help you, I’ll say so and you won’t pay anything.
- You pay through a secure Stripe link I email you. Your card details go to Stripe, never to me.
- I get to work and send you the results, usually within 5 working days of starting. Paying is you asking me to start straight away, so I start as soon as you’ve paid (see below). If a specialist search will take longer, I’ll tell you before you pay.
Cancelling and refunds
You’re buying a service at a distance, so you have 14 days to cancel from the day you pay, for any reason. Email hello@hawksburytimber.co.uk and say so.
- Cancel before I start: full refund.
- Cancel part way through: when you pay, you tick a box asking me to start within the 14 days, and I confirm that by email. If you cancel after I’ve started, you pay only for the work done so far and I refund the rest.
- Once I’ve sent you the finished search, the right to cancel ends. You accept that when you tick the box. If you’d rather not start yet, don’t pay until you’re ready: the link I send you doesn’t expire.
Refunds go back to the card you paid with, within 14 days of you telling me. None of this affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act: if my work falls short of reasonable care and skill, tell me and I’ll put it right or refund you. The full detail is in the terms.
Where the timber comes from
I don’t hold merchant stock and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. The directory points you at the people who have it. Occasionally I’ve got odds and sods going spare from my own workshop; those go on Workshop Finds.
