Why this exists

Inside access for everyday makers.

I am not a master woodworker. I deliver timber for a living, 5 days a week, and build things in my own workshop in my spare time. I see the timber supply industry from the inside, and I know how hard it can be for regular makers, DIYers, and small businesses to source good material without a massive trade account.

That's why Hawksbury Timber exists. I wanted to use my industry contacts and daily experience to help like-minded people get exactly what they need. It's about taking the mystery out of the timber yard and making it accessible.

The knowledge base on this site was built to share what I've learned from the supply side — cutting through the jargon to help you understand what you're buying before you spend your money. This isn't a textbook; it's practical advice from someone who handles timber every single day.

I'm not trying to be the biggest timber merchant. I'm just here to help you figure out what you need, and then use my network to get it for you at a fair price.

What I work with
  • Solid hardwoods — European oak, ash, walnut
  • Softwoods — Douglas fir, larch, cedar
  • Cladding and exterior timber
  • Planed, sawn, and rough-cut stock
What I believe
  • Know what you're buying before you spend money
  • A small order deserves the same advice as a big one
  • Natural timber beats engineered for most furniture and sign work
  • Spec the species, not just the price
  • Most buyers need guidance more than they need a catalogue
