Fibre Saturation Point (FSP)

Approx MC where movement starts. Below FSP, wood changes size as MC changes.

Fibre saturation point (FSP) is roughly the moisture content where the cell walls are saturated but free water is no longer present.

Below FSP, changes in MC cause noticeable shrinkage and swelling because the cell walls are gaining or losing bound water.

Many practical movement estimates treat the working range as about 30% down to 0% MC. It’s an approximation, but it’s useful.
