Overview
Radiata pine is common in DIY and general workshop builds.
Best for: painted projects, shop jigs, secondary parts, and quick utility furniture.
Watch-outs: dents easily, knots can bleed resin, and wide boards still move seasonally.
Let it acclimate, avoid locking wide panels across the grain, and seal knots if you’re painting.
Workability
Very easy to machine.
Knots and resin can clog abrasives; watch for fuzzy grain when sanding.
Drying
Often sold kiln-dried.
Still acclimate before final joinery.
Toxicity
Softwood dust precautions apply.
