Privacy Policy

Last updated: 26 February 2026

The Short Version

Timber Logic is a personal project run by one person. I do not sell your data and I do not harvest it for profit. The site may contain affiliate links and may offer paid membership tiers in the future. If you create an account or subscribe, I store only what is needed to make the tools work for you and to process your membership. That is it.

1. Who I Am

Timber Logic is operated by Shane, a timber haulier and amateur woodworker based in Nottinghamshire, England. This is a personal project. There is no company, no board of directors, and no marketing department. Just me. The site may generate income through affiliate links and paid membership tiers.

For any privacy-related queries, contact me at hello@timberlogic.uk.

2. What Data I Collect

Data you provide directly

  • Account registration — username, email address, and password (hashed, never stored in plain text).
  • Project Hub data — project names, cut lists, notes, and saved preferences you create within the toolkit.
  • Contact messages — if you email me, I receive your email address and whatever you write.
  • Membership & billing data — if you subscribe to a paid membership tier, I will collect the information needed to process your subscription (name, email, billing address). Payment card details are handled entirely by the third-party payment processor and are never stored on my server.

Data collected automatically

  • Server logs — IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and timestamps. This is standard web server behaviour.
  • Cookies — small text files stored on your device to maintain login sessions and remember preferences. See Section 5 for details.
  • Analytics — anonymised usage data (pages viewed, tools used, time on site) to help me understand which parts of the site are useful. See Section 6.

Data I do not collect

  • Payment card numbers or bank details — these are processed by the payment provider and never touch my server.
  • Location data beyond what is inferred from your IP address.
  • Biometric data, health data, or any special category data.

3. How I Use Your Data

I use the data I collect to:

  • Provide the service — authenticate your account, save your projects, and sync your preferences.
  • Improve the site — understand which tools and guides are most used so I can prioritise development.
  • Fix problems — diagnose errors, debug issues, and maintain security.
  • Communicate — respond to messages you send me.
  • Process memberships — if you subscribe to a paid tier, manage your subscription, process payments through a third-party provider, and grant access to member-only content.
  • Affiliate links — this site may contain links to third-party products and services. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, I may earn a commission. This does not affect the price you pay. Affiliate partners may use cookies to track referrals (see Section 5).

I do not use your data for advertising, profiling, automated decision-making, or any purpose beyond running and improving this toolkit.

4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Period.

Your data may be shared only in these limited circumstances:

  • Hosting provider — the site is hosted on shared infrastructure. The hosting provider processes server requests as part of delivering the site to you.
  • Analytics — if I use a third-party analytics service, it may process anonymised usage data. I will always choose privacy-respecting options where possible.
  • Legal obligation — if required by law, court order, or regulatory authority.
  • Payment processor — if you subscribe to a paid membership, your billing information is processed by a third-party payment provider (e.g. Stripe or PayPal). They operate under their own privacy policies. I do not store your card details.
  • Affiliate networks — when you click an affiliate link, the affiliate partner may set a cookie to track the referral. This cookie is set by the partner, not by me. I do not share your personal data with affiliate partners.

I do not use social media tracking pixels, retargeting scripts, or advertising networks.

5. Cookies

This site uses cookies for the following purposes:

Essential cookies

  • Session cookies — keep you logged in while you use the site. These expire when you close your browser or after a set period.
  • WordPress cookies — standard WordPress authentication and security cookies if you have an account.

Preference cookies

  • Unit preferences — remember whether you prefer metric or imperial display in the calculators.
  • Theme/layout preferences — any display settings you have chosen.

Analytics cookies

  • If used, these collect anonymised data about how you interact with the site. They do not identify you personally.

Affiliate cookies

  • When you click an affiliate link, the affiliate partner (e.g. Amazon, a timber supplier) may set a cookie on your device to track the referral. These cookies are set by the partner, not by me, and are governed by their own cookie policies.
  • I do not control the content or duration of affiliate cookies.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent some features from working correctly.

6. Analytics

I may use basic analytics to understand how people use the site. This helps me decide what to build next and where to focus my time. Any analytics I use will:

  • Collect data in anonymised or aggregated form where possible.
  • Not be used to identify individual users.
  • Not be shared with advertisers or data brokers.

If I change analytics providers or methods, I will update this section accordingly.

7. Local Storage & Service Workers

Timber Logic may use browser local storage and service workers as part of its Progressive Web App (PWA) functionality. This allows:

  • Offline access to previously viewed content and tools.
  • Faster load times by caching static assets locally.
  • Temporary storage of calculator inputs and project data on your device.

Data stored locally on your device is not transmitted to me unless you explicitly save it to your account. You can clear local storage at any time through your browser settings.

8. Data Retention

  • Account data — retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be removed.
  • Project data — retained for as long as your account exists. I may delete data from accounts inactive for an extended period (12+ months) after reasonable notice.
  • Server logs — retained for a limited period (typically 30–90 days) for security and diagnostic purposes, then deleted.
  • Email correspondence — retained as long as reasonably necessary to resolve your query.
  • Billing & subscription data — retained for as long as your membership is active, plus any period required by UK tax and accounting regulations (typically 6 years). Payment card details are never stored on my server.

9. Your Rights (UK GDPR)

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data I hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask me to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — ask me to delete your data (the “right to be forgotten”).
  • Restriction — ask me to limit how I process your data.
  • Portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.

To exercise any of these rights, email me at hello@timberlogic.uk. I will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data has been mishandled.

10. Data Security

I take reasonable measures to protect your data, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all connections.
  • Hashed passwords (never stored in plain text).
  • Regular software updates and security patches.
  • Restricted access to the server and database.

However, no system is completely secure. I cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use the site at your own risk. If I become aware of a data breach affecting your personal information, I will notify you as soon as reasonably possible.

11. Children

Timber Logic is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided me with personal data, please contact me and I will delete it promptly.

12. Changes to This Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

For significant changes, I will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users via email or a prominent notice on the site.

13. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, you can reach me at hello@timberlogic.uk.
